In an effort to help keep people entertained from home as everyone tries to get through the Covid 19 pandemic, the BDA Esports League will be hosting the Apex Legends Online Tournament on May 2 [Saturday].
A spokesperson said, “Representatives from the BDA Esports League are doing their part to help keep people safe and entertained from home as everyone tries to get through the Covid 19 pandemic. For the most part, the gamers seem to be behaving and are excited to see an online tournament being scheduled.
“Prior to the Covid 19 pandemic, we were fortunate enough to work with the Department of ICT Policy & Innovation to show students from both public and private schools the opportunities and benefits of Esports in Bermuda. As a result, we have seen increased interest in gaming, across various demographics of the community, with over 30% of women and ages ranging from 13 – 65+.
“BDA Esports League have been operating for over 18 months to put on video game tournaments for Bermuda residents, which are typically held in a designated venue for people to get together and compete. They have now introduced the first online tournament for players to compete and watch from home. This is the next step in the evolution of gaming which allows people from across the globe to join and see how well our players are doing.
“Apex Legends was the game that the community had voted for and showed the most interest in doing next. On April 11th we held a Tournament Trial to give some of the early players a chance to test streaming from home and make sure everything was setup for the official tournament. We have partnered with Bermemes to host the next tournament which will be held on May 2nd 2020 for free. The game can be played for free on all major platforms [PC, Xbox, and PS4].
“We have moderators who are there to make sure that all of our players follow the rules of the tournament and are respectful to one another. Above all else we want to make that sure everyone stays safe and is able to participate in a positive way during the Shelter in Place.
“For anyone interested in registering for the tournament, or would like to find out more information, you can join the public forum on Discord here. To view the tournament you can follow us on here.”
